Home Tutor Requirement Checklist: What Parents Should Share
Create a clear home-tutor requirement with class, board, subjects, locality, mode, timing, budget and tutor preferences so matching can be faster and more accurate.
A clear requirement saves time
“Need a tutor” is enough to start a conversation, but a more complete requirement helps narrow the right options quickly. Parents do not need to write a long description; a few accurate details are usually more useful than many vague preferences.
1. Class or grade
Always mention the student’s current class or grade. The expected depth, teaching pace and subject specialization can change significantly between primary, middle school and senior classes.
2. Board or curriculum
Share CBSE, ICSE, IB, State Board, NIOS or another curriculum where relevant. This helps the tutor understand syllabus depth, assessment style and textbook context.
3. Exact subjects
Write the actual subjects instead of “all subjects” unless that is genuinely what you need. For senior students, mention the specific subject and difficult areas if known.
4. City and locality
For home tuition, locality is essential because tutor travel feasibility affects whether the schedule can be maintained. A sector, colony, neighbourhood or nearby well-known locality is usually enough at the enquiry stage; there is no need to publish a full home address in a public message.
5. Home, online or both
Choose the preferred teaching mode. Selecting “both” can increase flexibility when the family is comfortable with either option, but choose home-only if in-person support is important to the student.
6. Preferred days and time window
Instead of one exact minute, share a realistic window such as weekday evenings or 5–7 PM. An alternate window can make matching easier, especially for in-person tuition.
7. Learning goal
Say whether the student needs concept repair, homework support, board preparation, regular practice, exam revision or help in one particular chapter. This helps distinguish the tutor profile you actually need.
8. Tutor preference, if genuinely important
If there is a male/female tutor preference, language requirement or other important consideration, share it early. Avoid adding unnecessary restrictions that do not affect the student’s learning or safety.
9. Budget or fee expectation
If you have a realistic budget range, sharing it can reduce back-and-forth. Fee expectations should be considered together with class level, subject specialization, session frequency, mode and locality.
